At the beginning of 1979, a new tendency sprang up in Quito in regard to the development of new activities practically unheard of in the capital at that time. One of these was the insurance company, Seguros Generales Equinoccial S.A., which was created with a capital of 1,500,000 sucres, 9 employees and 10 million sucres in sales on March 1, 1973. Since that time, the company has extended its operations to wider groups of persons. It has also been considered important and transcendental to carry out work in new areas of insurance while attending traditional lines at the same time.
Equinoccial is a pioneer in the lines of Bonds, All Risk Oil and Special Risks as well as in other areas. Equinoccial has assumed an important position in the Ecuadorian insurance market because of the amount of its production, its patrimonial strength and its important number of assets. Seguros Equinoccial’s collaborators are known for their mystic of service and their high professional standards as well as for the fact that they can be found in such principal cities as Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca, Manta, Ambato, Ibarra, Riobamba and Loja.
At the beginning of 1997, Seguros Equinoccial began a new era in which many varied concepts of strategic planning, the creation of values and improvement in service were applied. The company passed through three stages of growth. During the first stage, it specialized its services and focused its work on the private Ecuadorian sector, which caused a reduction of sales from $20 to $9 million. During the second stage of its growth which lasted five years, it consolidated its two private areas -the local and the international- and it now represents 4 international companies. The third stage of growth is that of individual business in which the goal is to lead the market.
